Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has sponsored a bill that seeks to usurp powers from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Standard reports that the Anti-Corruption Laws (Amendment) Bill has already undergone the first reading in the National Assembly.
If passed into law, the bill will restrict the powers of the DCI and DPP to only investigating and prosecuting criminal matters respectively.
All corruption cases will be handled by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) if the bill is passed by parliament and gets a nod from the president.
Notably, Nyoro is a close confidant of Deputy President William Ruto and a member of the Tanga Tanga group.
This development comes barely two weeks after the DP's allies publicly questioned the jurisdiction of the DPP and DCI in investigating corruption matters.
They explained that the two bodies had assumed the functions of the EACC which had been mandated by the Constitution to investigate corruption cases.
Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murokomen called for the sacking of George Kinoti on March 15.
Murkomen further claimed that the DCI boss was being used to bring down certain politicians.
Other politicians who are allied to the DP have also faulted investigations by DCI into controversial payments for the construction of the stalled Arror and Kimwarer Dams saga in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
