Keriko Mixed Secondary School to be Renamed After Teacher Peter Tabichi

Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui, on Saturday, announced that the process of changing Keriko Mixed Secondary School’s name in honour of teacher Peter Tabichi had begun.

Speaking during the homecoming of Tabichi, the governor revealed that the school would be renamed to Brother Tabichi Secondary School.

The Mathematics and Physics teacher won a global crown on March 24 bagging Ksh100,000,000 for his acts of kindness and generosity towards students at the institution.

Transport services on Nakuru-Nairobi highway were reportedly paralysed as Nakuru residents welcomed the award-winning teacher back to the county.

Other prominent personalities who took part in the procession included Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amb. Amina Mohamed, Julie Gichuru and Vikas Pota.

On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta committed to donating Ksh20 million to Teacher Tabichi's school.

Speaking at State House, the president explained that the money was aimed at expanding the school's infrastructure.

At the same time, the president praised Tabichi stating that he was a role model and an inspiration to the society, especially to his fellow teachers and all Kenyan students.

Tabichi won the coveted 2019 Global Teacher Prize overcoming competition from 10,000-plus teachers, who applied for the accolade.

He was recognized mostly for donating at least 80 percent of his salary toward footing school fees of children who hail from humble backgrounds.
