President Uhuru Rewards Teacher Peter Tabichi's School With Ksh20M

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Monday, committed to donating Ksh20 million to Teacher Peter Tabichi's school.

Speaking at State House on Monday, the president explained that the money was aimed at expanding Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School's infrastructure.

He further revealed that the money was meant to improve skills geared towards encouraging the students to take science subjects.

While speaking at the event, the president further heaped praise towards the hardworking teacher.

He disclosed that Tabichi was a role model and an inspiration to the society, especially to his fellow teachers and all Kenyan students.

He even asked other leaders to emulate him and that he is proof that commitment and integrity pays off.

"I am proud today that my honoured guest, my chief guest, is a man who has shown that commitment and integrity does pay off," he stated.

Tabichi rose to fame after he won the coveted 2019 Global Teacher Prize bagging Ksh100 million.

He was the first African to ever win the award which was mostly because of his philanthropic tendencies where he donates 80 per cent of his salary towards educating the poor.

In a past interview, the teacher indicated that he was in disbelief when he was called and informed about being among the finalists adding that that he was trying his luck when he applied for the competition in 2018.

After the in, Tabichi plans to build a computer laboratory at his school, which is situated at the remote parts of Lare in Njoro, Nakuru County.

He also plans to come up with an agricultural project, which will sponsor bright and needy children as well as start programmes to motivate fellow teachers.
