Uhuru Explains Why He's Ever Ready to Sign Loan Deals

President Uhuru Kenyatta recently explained his apparent appetite to borrow loan deals both internally and externally.

Speaking during Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni's visit to Kenya, Uhuru didn't shy to confront the criticism against his government's massive loans.

"These days when I travel they say take away his pen, don't give him his pen. He is going to sign away the country.

"I have no intention of signing away the country. I just want to build roads, rail, connect people to power so that our people can do business and we can get prosperity in our country," he added.

Explaining his readiness to sign loan deals, Uhuru explained that every decision to borrow is for the betterment of the country.

"We are not signing loans to come and misuse, it is for development of the nation and our region," he remarked.

The Head of State equally defended the decision to give Uganda land in Naivasha to build a dry port for the cargo.

"I liked Namibia's decision to grant land for dry ports to its neighbours.

"It will be easier for Uganda to manage their inbound and outbound cargo leaving us to manage the Mombasa port.

According to Uhuru, the government may in future consider granting similar facilities to South Sudan, Rwanda and DRC.
