Man Calls Pastor to Confess Hacking Wife to Death in Bomet

In a bizarre case of femicide, a man hacked his wife to death and later called his pastor to confess to the murder in Bomet County.

The Tuesday incident that occurred in Chepalungu constituency left residents in shock where the man is alleged to have lured his wife to a farm in a local forest before killing her.

Relatives who spoke to the media stated that the man used a sharp panga to attack his wife.

“The man lured his wife to a farm on which his sister has planted crops in the forest under the shamba system. On the farm, located three kilometres from their home, he turned against her, hacking her on the neck,” a relative told the Nation.

After committing the heinous crime, the man made a call to Pastor Simon Bett of African Gospel Church informing him of the murder.

“He called to say he had committed the offence and insisted that I should rush to the farm to check on his fallen wife," the pastor stated.

Bett accompanied by two other villagers rushed to the scene only to find the woman had been hacked to death.

The body was taken to Longisa county referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The man fled from the crime scene but he was later apprehended by the authorities.

Confirming the arrest, Chepalungu Sub-County Commander Nelson Masai stated, "We have arrested the suspect and investigations into the incident have commenced."

The incident is part of a sad trend in the sub-county where earlier in March, a man murdered his mother which was preceded by an incident where a father murdered his three children.

Benard Kirui was arraigned in court on March 25, 2019, for the murder of his three sons at Mabuteek village in Bomet County.
