Convict Earns 3 More Years to Sentence After Getting Caught Escaping

A man in Embu found himself in trouble on Monday after he tried to escape police custody.

He had earlier been sentenced to a 10-year jail term but had filed an appeal to the decision.

The convict had been delivered to the court for the hearing of the appeal when he tried to escape from police custody.

The unlucky gentleman was re-arrested and arraigned in court where the Judge slapped him with three extra years or a Ksh 50,000 fine on top of his original 10 years sentence.

He was found guilty of trying to evade justice by escaping from lawful custody.

Radio Citizen reported that the appeal case was consequently thrown out as the convict proved that he was not remorseful of his original crime.

When passing the ruling, the judge was quick to warn all those who thought it was easy to evade justice.

This comes a few weeks after another inmate from the Manyani Prison was arrested trying to sneak back to prison.

The prisoner who was said to be mentally unstable had escaped through a drainage pipe that was adjacent to the prison walls.
