An Australian tourist will only spend one year in jail for knocking dead a boda boda operator.
Allisa Kefford Parker had been accused of overspeeding and subsequently killing a boda boda operator, Nicholas Musau, in January 2016.
In the ruling delivered by a Kibera Court magistrate, Parker was also offered an alternative fine of Ksh200,000.
The prosecution of the case narrated to the court that Musau's death arose as a result of the accused's failure to take precautions.
According to The Star, Parker was reportedly in a hurry to turn to Kolbotos-Lawla road and also had other things on the mind hence failing to check if the road was clear before making the turn.
Musau's wife corroborated the story revealing that her husband left the house with the requisite safety regalia including a brown helmet and a red reflector.
The case was closed by the prosecutor after six witnesses successfully testified.
The ruling was a sharp contrast from a January 2019 one in which a Chinese family was compensated Ksh25.5 million following the loss of their daughter, Luo Yi, in 2013.
The family sued the hotel after their daughter died, stating the death had robbed them of their only child who was a breadwinner.
She was, reportedly mauled to death by a hippopotamus, a case that the hotel in the suit refuted explaining that she was taking its picture which prompted the wild animal to the late-night attack.
