Sen Mutula Kilonzo Junior's Ksh 4k Job at Father's Firm

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior revealed that he once worked for his father's firm on a monthly allowance of Ksh 4,500.

He was speaking at an interview with NRG Radio where he stated how his father, the Late Mutula Kilonzo moulded him.

The senator told viewers of the visual radio station that despite being the son of a wealthy politician, he himself wasn't.

Mutula Jr would wake up early and take a matatu to the office and his father would find him there, of course, the minister having driven himself in a luxurious vehicle

"He used to arrive at 6:10am...I was in the office before him...He drives himself in that Mercedes and I catch a matatu," the Makueni senator recalled.

Mutula added that one time when they were both in the vehicle, the late minister told him that even if he was to give the car to his son, everyone would know it wasn't his.

After working at the company for some time, his father increased his allowance to Ksh 6,000.

The late minister was teaching his son the value of hard work, that had earned him millions of shillings.

For all his grandeur and wealth, its surprising to find out that the departed Kilonzo never received a salary in the years he served as an MP and Cabinet Minister.

At the time of his death, Kenya Revenue Authority had recovered an estimated Ksh120 million tax that had accrued during the Moi-era.

“I’m actually paying my taxes and my salary has been attached. I would even expect you to donate something to me now that you know I haven’t earned a single cent from Parliament for the past eight years,” the Late Mutula once joked at a past interview with Capital FM
