Uhuru Rewards Former Ex-Governor Julius Malombe With Powerful Appointment

President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended a powerful post in his government to a former governor nearly two years after he lost 2017 general elections.

Through a gazette notice dated May 3rd, 2019, Uhuru appointed former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe as the chairperson for the Kenya Water Towers Agency.

Malombe will be expected to serve in the capacity for a period of three years commencing May 3rd.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act and paragraph 6 (1) (a) of the Kenya Water Towers Agency Order, 2012, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint Julius M Malombe to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency, for a period of three (3) years," read the notice in part.

Malombe served as the Governor for Kitui County before he was unseated by Charity Ngilu in an election outcome that he came in third.

He filed a suit to have Ngilu's win revoked by the Court of Appeal led by Roseline Nambuye which threw out his case since there was no evidence to show Ngilu gained any advantage from the alleged malpractices.

Another politician appointed by Uhuru for another state job is Nicholas Gumbo, a former Rarieda constituency MP.

Gumbo was appointed as the chairperson of the Board of Kenyatta National Hospital for the same period as Malombe with effect from the 3rd May, 2019.

He had also vied for the Siaya gubernatorial seat but lost to the current governor Cornel Rasanga in the 2017 elections.

He, however, disputed the outcome of the elections claiming that his "agents were not given an equal chance to verify the forms."
