American Technology giants, Microsoft Corporation, declared their master plan to put up a one-of-its-kind technology centre in Nairobi, Kenya, with only 6 such centres existing across the world.
The announcement was made following a lengthy closed-door meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta held at State House Nairobi on Monday.
Dubbed Microsoft's Africa Development Centre, the Kenyan government announced that upon the completion, the centre will employ 100 local engineers.
"Microsoft's Africa Development Centre, which will be a premier hub of engineering for the company and its affiliates, will carry huge potential for jobs and business opportunities for tech-savvy Kenyan youth," a tweet from State House Kenya divulged.
Microsoft's Vice President for Gaming, Phil Spencer, led the top brass executives present at the meeting.
He affirmed the Kenyan government's sentiments, going on to add that the Africa Development Centre would be used to serve the greater East African region.
“The African Development Centres will contribute to Microsoft’s interests across global businesses such as Office, Azure and Windows among others,” Spencer divulged.
On his part, Uhuru stated that the new centre would help realize one of his government's big 4 development agenda as it would ensure that the country is well advanced with a tech-savvy young generation equipped to tackle the global market.
He went on to challenge the new partners to practice transparency and fair practice so as to avoid any conflicts in future as well as protect an individual's intellectual property rights.
Uhuru was flanked in the meeting by; ICT Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, Aden Duale, State House Chief of Staff, Nzioka Waita , and Senior Advisor in the Office of the President, Ruth Kagia.
