Horrific Incident as National School Student Found Dead in Dormitory

Joan Mumbi, a Form two student at Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School was found dead in the dormitory on Sunday in an incident that has puzzled her colleagues.

Mumbi was found hanging in the dormitory with a bedsheet around her neck, in a case that is suspected to be suicide, Citizen Digital reports.

The student is said to have committed suicide when others were in for the morning preps and Sunday service.

Mathira West Deputy County Commissioner, Charles Monari confirmed the incident stating that the 19-year-old committed suicide due to the pressure she got from her father to perform better in her studies.

The deceased also left a suicide note indicating that she was living with her father while her child, whom she conceived while in class 6, was living with her mother after her parents separated.

Her body was taken to the Karatina Hospital Mortuary.

In yet another incident that occurred early this month, a student from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology drafted a two-page suicide letter directed to his parents and teachers.

Kakamega Sub-County Police Commander, David Kabena stated that they were treating the matter seriously and had forwarded it to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

"Attempted suicide is a criminal offense," he stated.

He added that investigators would probe the authenticity of the letter and take action.
