Four people died and 16 others were injured in two accidents that occurred at the same spot near Ogembo town in Kisii.
Two people were killed after a speeding bulldozer veered off the road crashed into a public service vehicle that was picking passengers on the roadside, K24 reports.
As a crowd gathered around the scene of the accident, another tragedy happened.
According to Citizen Tv, a vehicle crashed into the crowd of onlookers killing two other people on the spot and injuring several people.
NTV reports that the motorist lost control of his car amid the confusion of the first accident.
Angered by the accidents, residents took to the streets, barricading the highway in protest of what they called reckless driving.
They faulted the county government for not having proper designated matatu stages.
Police officers had to shoot in the air to disperse the demonstrators.
