40 Boys Raid Sing'ore Girl's Dormitory, 12 Arrested

Twelve high school students were on Saturday arrested by police after a botched raid on a girl’s dormitory.

The boys from St Patrick Iten high school, allegedly sneaked into Sing’ore Girls High School in Elgeyo-Marakwet, over what is said to be intentions to rape, the Nation reports.

Contrary reports - according to Keiyo North Sub-County police boss Fredrick Ochieng - indicated that 40 schoolboys from St Patrick’s, six kilometres away, had forced their way into the girls’ dormitory, allegedly after being sent short text message invitations, by some girls.

However, the invite "during the cold season" took a different turn when some girls raised alarm about strangers in their dormitory.

The school watchmen promptly responded to the girls' screams, triggering a stampede.

In the ensuing melee one of the boys sustained a panga cut from one of the watchmen, while some girls got injured scampering for safety.

Other students are said to have been injured as they fled through the barbed wire fence.

Mr Ochieng said a roll-call conducted by teachers at St Patrick’s established that a large number of Form Three and Form Four students were missing.

He further said police found the group of boys on the Iten-Sing’ore-Kapsowar road.

The boys allegedly told police that they visit Sing‘ore once a year, particularly during the cold season, in a practice that dates back to the 1980s.
