Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, on Sunday moved a woman to tears after he showed up in Eastleigh where buildings were being demolished by a private developer.
In a video posted on the governor's page, a bulldozer is visible on site tearing down buildings, as a woman is heard saying that the demolishers are breaking into people's houses.
The governor is then seen walking in at the scene of the incident and a woman tearfully thanking him for intervening in order to stop the demolitions.
"Gavana Sonko Mungu amekuleta hapa, Mungu akubariki sana, gavana wetu asanti sana (God is the one that has brought you here governor, God bless you and thank you so much)," the woman tearfully tells the governor.
He is then presented with documents showing the history of the land where the buildings stand.
On his Facebook page, the governor condemned acts of injustice towards the Nairobi residents.
"This evening, I visited Madiwa area in Eastleigh where a private developer illegally demolished some buildings.
"My administration will not condone such acts of injustices and I will ensure justice is done to the victims," he posted.
This is not the first time the governor has stopped a private developer from pulling down houses of innocent citizens.
On May 25, 2019, Sonko jumped to the defense of Buruburu residents who were being attacked by an armed gang that had been sent to unlawfully demolish a church and school in Buruburu phase 4.
Acting on a tip-off, Sonko went to the site where he confronted the goons hired by a private developer.
“This is a heinous act. Where on earth can one demolish a church and grab land? We cannot allow this to happen in Nairobi. We must respect human beings regardless of their status whether rich or poor," he added.
