Esther Passaris Forced to Clarify Her Eviction Reports

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has given her side of the story regarding reports that she is facing eviction from her home in Kitusuru, Nairobi County.

Reports had indicated that the Alka Sharma Hanspal, a widow to the late billionaire Kultar Singh Hanspal, accused Passaris of forcefully taking the property that she has reportedly lived on for the last 13 years.

Through a post on her Facebook, Passaris wrote, "My attention is drawn to the press conference by Alka Sharma Hanspal, social media uploads and today's coverage on the Standard page 18.

"I wish to categorically state that the allegations raised by one Alka Sharma Hanspal are not true.

The women rep told Kenyans.co.ke that the dispute was and still is before the courts and it pertains to a breach of an agreement of sale and subsequent fraudulent transfer of property to a third party before the matter had been concluded.

"This matter has been before the court since 2009 and it would be sub judicial for me to discuss it," the woman rep noted.

The lease agreement was reportedly signed between Passaris and Alka but was later revoked by Kutar on grounds that his wife (Alka) had no legal capacity to sign it.

Alka, in her suit, explained that she was under pressure when she signed the agreement since her husband was ill and her family was experiencing financial problems.

She claimed that Passaris did not pay for the house and that she took advantage of her when her husband was ill.

“Kultar Singh entered into a tenancy agreement with the plaintiff (Passaris) commencing October 1, 2007, for two years, by which the plaintiff was in possession of the suit property as tenant of which she has been paying rent to the third defendant (Alka) but not as a purchaser," read part of the court documents.
