Mwangi Wa Iria's New Party Gets Gazetted

As the battle for President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession intensifies in Mt Kenya region, the Registrar of Political Parties has Gazetted the Civic Renewal Party (CRP)  in the latest notice dated June 21.

The new party is associated with Muranga Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, who is serving his second and final term as a county head.

CRP becomes the latest entry in the region which has seen several other parties formed despite President Uhuru Kenyatta blank condemnation to all leaders engaging in politics within his Mount Kenya backyard.

Reports suggest that Wa Iria is among politicians likely to shape Mt Kenya politics with some even fronting him a possible successor to Uhuru as Mt Kenya's political kingpin.

On November 27, 2018, the governor's personal assistant Mwangi JM asserted that the registration of the party was the beginning of an extraordinary transition in Central and larger Kenya's political metamorphosis.

He added that the party was founded on finding justice for all and doing away with suppression and oppression of ordinary majority voters.

In May, the Transformation National Alliance Party (TNAP) which is linked to Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria was also registered, but the process is not yet completed.

In 2018, there were reports that Kuria ha announced he will vie for the presidency in 2022, and he initially tried to take over the Democratic Party (DP) once led by former President Kibaki.

On June 16, Uhuru came out guns blazing against his critics in his Mt Kenya backyard, warning them that he was still the regional political kingpin and that they should not mistake his silence for cowardice.

The Head of State, who in a fit of rage switched from Kiswahili to his native Kikuyu language while addressing an Akorino gathering at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi vowed that the home-grown opposition would not stop him from showing the Mt Kenya region the direction to take come 2022.
