3 Al Shabaab Militants Killed in Fierce Shoot-Out

Three Al Shabaab militants were, on Friday, gunned down after attacking a Border Patrol Unit (BPU) in Yumbis, Fafi Constituency, Garissa County. 

Capital News reported that the terrorists had destroyed a communications mast before they raided the police unit.

The incident was confirmed by Police Spokesman Charles Owino who revealed that no police officer died during the raid.

“Three Al Shabaab attackers were killed during the incident but our officers did not suffer casualty," he explained. 

Owino went on to add that other attackers had escaped with serious injuries.

Other reports indicated that the terrorists made away with an unknown number of firearms and ammunition.

The incident comes just a week after eight Administration Police (AP) officers died in an IED attack in Khorof Harar in Wajir East sub-county.

The officers were allegedly conducting security surveillance along Kenya-Somalia border when the attack happened.

The Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai issued a statement confirming the tragic incident.

"The Inspector General National Police Service wishes to inform the public that this morning at around 10.50 am, a police land cruiser aboard 11 police officer was hit by Improvised Explosive Device.

The officers were on patrol between Khorof-Harar and Konton in Wajir County along the Kenya -Somalia border," he explained.
