DPP Reveals Jowie's Unknown Name in New Documents

The murder trial of businesswoman Monica Kimani kicked off on Tuesday where the accused; Joseph Irungu and journalist Jacque Maribe took fresh pleas.

During the proceeding at the High Court before Justice James Wakiaga the prosecution, led by Catherine Mwaniki amended Irungu's name to include his alias 'Harun'.

Initially, the charge sheet only had Joseph Irungu, alias, 'Jowie'.

The two denied murdering the business lady at her home in Lamuria Gardens apartment on September 19, 2018.

The prosecution had presented two witnesses by 2pm.

A pathologist, Dr. Peter Ndegwa, who carried out an autopsy on Monica's body informed the court that the victim had a slit throat.

"There was bleeding; a dead body does not bleed. She had a visibly slit throat and blood oozing from her nose.

“The body belonged to a 28year old, in a wet, blood stained maroon and white bed cover. She was dressed in a blue and green free flowing dress,” he testified in court.

During a cross-examination, Irungu's lawyer Hassan Nandwa shocked the courtroom when he insinuated that Kimani might have died from starvation.

“Did you open her oesophagus to ascertain the food Monica Kimani took that day? Did you open her stomach? Could we suggest that the cause of her death was as a result of starvation?” asked the lawyer.
