Drama as 3 Gunmen Abduct Kenyan Businessman in Tanzania

Drama ensued in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, after three gunmen accosted a Kenyan businessman on Monday and abducted him.

The Standard reported that Raphael Ongangi was abducted at the intersection of Msasani and Karume Roads in Oysterbay neighbourhood.

His wife Veronica Ongangi reported the matter to Tanzanian police before also informing the Kenyan High Commission in the country.

Reports claimed that the victim was accosted by three vehicles and two motorbikes before three armed men forced him into one of the cars and drove off.

Ongangi is said to be running a transport business between Dar es Salaam, DR Congo, Zambia and Rwanda.

Kenyan High Commissioner to Tanzania Dan Kazungu confirmed the incident adding that they were in touch with the local authorities to ensure a speedy resolution to the matter.

We are aware of the incident and the mission is informed of the matter. The mission is working around the clock and will be sharing progress reports on this matter,” Kazungu affirmed.

The motive of the abduction was not clear as the kidnappers were yet to make any demands to the family of the victim.

This incident happened on the same day Starehe MP Charles Njagua (Jaguar) made remarks that were later termed to be xenophobic by the Tanzanian parliament.

Jaguar's statement forced the Tanzanian speaker to direct President John Pombe Magufuli to summon Kazungu and ensure the security of the Tanzanians living in Kenya.
