Major Delays at JKIA Following Technical Hitch

A technical hitch at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday prevented planes from taking off and landing.

Reports by the Nation indicate that the radar system at the airport was down since 5pm making it impossible to manage all incoming and outgoing traffic.

Several flights were diverted to Mombasa and Kisumu airports during the situation.

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) released a statement confirming that there was a technical hitch with the civil aviation navigation systems (ATC).

"We would like to confirm delayed flight operations at JKIA this evening due to a technical hitch with the civil aviation navigation systems(ATC).

"The Communications Authority of Kenya has restored the system and we are now working on clearing the backlog on the ground,"  KAA stated.

The body apologised for the inconvenience caused.

This is not the first time such a hitch has been recorded at the airport. In May, passengers at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), were left stranded following major delays.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a JKIA employee affirmed that there were delays at the airport resulting from a technical glitch.

"Yes, we are experiencing several delays at the airport resulting from a technical glitch that engineers are working to resolve at the moment," she disclosed.
