Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been combing the State House registry to try and get to the bottom of a letter believed to have been penned by a concerned Cabinet Secretary claiming some colleagues were plotting to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
Nation reported that the probe established the document said to have been addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta was not at State House.
Doubts have now emerged after the detectives failed to find a hard copy of the letter at the house on the hill.
On Thursday The Standard highlighted five indicators that the document at the center of investigations was could have been fake.
For instance, the newspaper stated that a letter cannot be addressed to the president directly, rather, protocol dictates that it goes through the Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua.
It further noted that a letter to the president with a government letterhead would not have been printed on white paper.
Experts disclosed to the local publication that the missive would have been penned on blue or yellow conqueror paper.
Also, detectives drew suspicions on the language used on the letter, citing that the author signed off as 'your loyal cabinet secretary'.
Reporters also noted that a genuine letter would not have had more text after signing off unless to indicate who it was copied to.
On Monday, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, his Health counterpart Sicily Kariuki, Trade & Industrialization CS Peter Munya, appeared before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over the claims.
