Digital Innovations and Diaspora Communications Secretary Dennis Itumbi has unveiled plans to roll out a new technology that he hopes will help President Uhuru Kenyatta cement his legacy and provide information about government to Kenyans.
He has named the new tech, Government Messenger, and will start out as an interactive platform for Kenyans to keep in touch with government officials and programs.
"We are introducing technology to be all you need to know to follow up answers [sic]. We will ensure you get answers as fast as you should. We have taken time to completely change how you interact with the government," read Itumbi's Facebook post in part.
The plan is still in the initial stages and will undergo a pilot phase in July.
The idea sparked from feedback and questions that members of the public asked on social media.
"We hope that in a year we can turn it into a government call centre and transform it from a project to an impact centre," Itumbi went on.
He hopes that eventually, by 2022, it will be a signature project of Uhuru's legacy.
"To our critics, our message remains the same, you are a part of our growth, we welcome you to tell us off, help redo our ideas and also to experience our platform," Itumbi added.
In this project, he has teamed up with members of the Presidency Digital Team.
Kenyans have welcomed his plan, showering praises on the idea.
"This is great. Push it through. Certain Government services are still difficult to access even with Huduma Centres - which are doing a good job all the same. I support!" responded Joseph Murimi.
