Dennis Itumbi Condemned to More Days in Police Cells

Digital Innovations and Diaspora Communications Secretary Dennis Itumbi will spend more time behind bars after police were given the go-ahead to detain him longer.

The court gave the authorities five more days to hold Itumbi to allow investigations to be conducted.

Until Monday, July 15, Muthaiga Police Station cells will be his home.

He was arrested on Wednesday after revelations that the fake letter, that had claimed there was a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto, was traced to have originated from a source close to the DP.

14 officers approached him while having lunch at the Charlie Bistro restaurant on Wabera Street and introduced themselves as Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers.

He was then driven to DCI headquarters for questioning about the letter alleging a plot against Ruto.

On arrival at the DCI Kiambu Road, he was ushered to a boardroom where 11 detectives asked to take a statement from him.

According to The Standard, he had demanded to speak to his lawyer, Moses Chelang’a, who arrived moments before his scheduled interrogation.

Itumbi declined to record a statement until charges were preferred against him.

“On the advice of my lawyer, I have not recorded any statement and will not do so until the police disclose why they arrested me,” he affirmed from Muthaiga Police Station.
