It is said that in politics, you have to play your cards close to your chest and put on a poker face lest your opponents know your next move and outmaneuver your best-laid plans.
The adage rang true on Thursday when Deputy President William Ruto had his first public encounter with Health CS Sicily Kariuki, one of the Cabinet members linked to an alleged plan to assassinate him.
The two met during Bob Collymore's memorial service at All Saints Cathedral and maintained their composure smiling at each other.
As the two casually had the handshake, hawk-eyed observers couldn't help but analyse the photo looking for some confined signs of tensions between the duo.
A snap that has been making rounds on social media showed Ruto seemingly squeezing Sicily's hand. All this while, they maintained a smile.
"Squeezed and a firm handshake to just remind you that I still remember the La Mada night meetings," one user stated.
Another wrote, "When you realize you got more enemies than you thought."
"That was a hardshake," a netizen added.
Sicily was one of the leaders summoned by the DCI over an alleged plot to assassinate the DP. Others were Joe Mucheru (ICT), Peter Munya (Trade), President's Delivery Unit Secretary Andrew Wakahiu and Energy PS Joseph Njoroge.
CS Munya divuldged that they discussed ways in which they could track implementation and accelerating of national projects including water, roads and electricity.
“The meeting was successful. Our aim is usually trying to ensure services are delivered to the population.
“We have a list of issues picked locally which we are addressing including water, roads and electricity. What we do is tracking implementation and accelerating,” CS Munya stated.
