17 robbery suspects, on Friday, escaped from a moving police vehicle while they were being transported.
According to Daily Nation, the incident took place within Nairobi area.
The publication further detailed that the police launched a manhunt for the escapees immediately after the incident happened.
It is, however, still not clear where the criminals were being taken to or the exact point they staged the escape.
This comes just months after 6 remandees escaped by jumping out of a moving police vehicle in Migori County.
The remandees were being transported from the Rongo Law Courts to Migori GK Prison when the incident took place.
They hopped out of the vehicle at Stella in Uriri before running towards a nearby sugarcane plantation.
Two of them were later re-arrested after a rigorous search over several hours deep in the plantation.
Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge confirmed, at the time, that the remandees escaped while still in handcuffs.
Before that, an inmate managed to make his way out of Nyeri Medium Prison in October 2018.
“He was serving a short sentence and some are allowed to work under guard outside the prison. That is how he escaped,” Central Deputy Regional Prisons boss Stephen Kiplagat explained at the time.
