Tanzanian President John Magufuli on Saturday presented special gifts to President Uhuru Kenyatta as a sign of deep respect and appreciation for Kenya.
The Tanzanian President gave Uhuru 4 peacocks, which according to him, had great meaning in his country’s history.
He stated that he strongly felt it in his heart to give Uhuru the peacocks, quickly adding that he had never gifted any other head of state the birds nor was he planning to do so ever again.
Magufuli, however, tickled Uhuru’s rib when he demanded that when the peacocks eventually give birth, the peafowls should be returned to Tanzania.
The Tanzanian head of state also noted that he was touched by Uhuru’s kind-heartedness after he visited his father’s grave and kins’ as well as his ailing mother.
“He has visited my father’s grave and kin’s as well as paying my ailing mother a visit. I saw when my mother touched his (Uhuru) hand, there was a very high signal that she really felt a deep affection towards him,” Magufuli shared.
Uhuru who had toured Tanzania on a two-day private visit held a meeting with Magufuli before visiting his mother Suzana Magufuli at her Chato home where she is ailing.
In a video circulating online, Uhuru is heard telling Magufuli’s mother that Kenya as a country wished her well.
“Sisi tumekuja kukutembelea na kukuhakikishia ya kwamba twakutakia nafuu (We have come to visit and assure you that we are praying for you),” Uhuru stated.
Uhuru then did the sign of the cross before breaking into prayer.
“We come before you today oh Lord, accompanied with my brother Magufuli. We have come to visit his mother who is sick, we pray that you continue to strengthen and bless her. Let her get well and take care of her family. In her dedication to praying for the East African Community, may you be her helper.
“We pray that even as good neighbors we shall endeavor to know the welfare of our brothers and sisters. We pray for Kenya and Tanzania that you shall continue to bless us. Shower your blessing upon our countries and give our countries everlasting peace, “ Uhuru concluded his prayers.
