Janet Mbugua Demands Apology From TV Station

NTV show host, Janet Mbugua, has asked a Kenyan television network, Ebru TV, to issue an apology following a disparaging video disguised as a skit it aired.

Taking to social media, the renowned presenter expressed her disgust with the entire skit's plot wondering how glorifying street harassment made content for TV.

In the video containing the station's logo, a male actor, believed to be an employee of the station, is seen making aggressive approaches towards women on the streets and asking them direct questions.

Some blatantly ignore his advances and that is when he resorts to attacks, accusing them of categorising all men as uncaring, yet they ignore his advances.

"Wait how is this supposed to be funny? How can someone be normalizing street harassment in the form of this skit? When can we expect an apology from Ebru TV?" posed the no-nonsense anchor.

Commenting further about the video to Kenyans.co.ke, Janet affirmed, "This is street harassment. This is a violation. If someone doesn't see that, they're part of the problem. It's wrong and this should be taken seriously."

Some of her fans were equally disgusted with the packaging of the video and attacked the media house for being inconsiderate.

"I felt violated just watching it. Like, seriously!," posted a user by the name Any Ango.

"This is so uncouth! Very disturbing indeed," expressed Samwel Mwaniki.

Besides TV presence, Mbugua is also known for her passionate fight for women and children's rights.

In late May, the NTV show presenter filed a petition to Members of Parliament urging them to improve on the Menstrual Health Management (MHM) Policy, to ensure all women in Kenya are receiving adequate MHM services.

“Every day, women and girls who lack the income and access to afford sanitary products face significant barriers including insufficient education about MHM and inadequate access to quality, low-cost products.

"There are girls who don’t have access to sanitary products, and as a result, they feel they have no option but to stay home while menstruating,” she stated at the time.
