EACC Arrests ODM MP

UPDATE: The Nyakach MP was on Friday released on a cash bail of Ksh3 million after he denied charges of abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud Nairobi County government Ksh10 million.

Detectives from EACC on Thursday afternoon arrested ODM Member of Parliament, Owuor Joshua Aduma while in Kisumu.

The Nyakach MP was arrested while having lunch in Gor Mahia Hotel in Kondele, Kisumu County.

EACC Communications Officer Yassin Ali stated that the MP was arrested over alleged irregular payment of Ksh68 million to a law firm by the Nairobi County Government.

Aduma was the former Acting Director of Legal Affairs at City Hall during the alleged irregular payment.

The lawmaker is expected to be transferred to Nairobi for further interrogation pending arraignment.

Earlier on, EACC detectives had been on the search for the MP, who was reported to have been linked to the Ksh68 million scandal, that involved former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

He was among the 17 suspects facing prosecution for irregular payments made during their tenure at the then Nairobi County Council.

Recently, EACC detectives raided the homes of Kisumu Speaker Onyango Oloo over his alleged involvement in the construction of the controversial Ksh4.2 billion Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) mall.

Oloo is among the several officers and former officers of the Authority whose homes were raided by detectives, as investigations into an alleged fraud on the construction of the mall continue.

They collected a number of documents from the homes and also from his office before driving him to the Western Region EACC offices.

In the case in which the officials were being investigated, EACC estimated that up to Ksh2 billion could have been lost due to inflated costs in the construction of the Lake Basin Mall.
