A vehicle avoiding a police roadblock, on Sunday, hit a culvert on the Nyeri-Nyahururu road, before bursting into flames and killing three people on the spot.
An eyewitness by the name, Mwangi, noted that the driver was trying to make a U-turn to avoid a police roadblock when the accident took place.
"We don't know why the driver was trying to run away from the police. We watched helplessly as the car went up in flames," he disclosed.
Reports by The Standard indicated that the occupants have not been identified yet.
Kieni West sub-county police commander, Ali Ahmed, asserted that investigations were ongoing.
He added that the officers also wanted to know what the car was transporting.
In June, a similar incident occurred when a Nyamira Express bus caught fire as it was travelling on the Wangari Mathaai Road overpass above Limuru Road.
The firefighters, however, responded fast enough quenching the fire before it could cause any severe damages.
Passengers were safely evacuated from the bus.
