Duale Rants About Daily Nation's Attempts to Extort Him for Cover Story

National Assembly's Majority Leader, Aden Duale, on Wednesday night, went on a rant against Daily Nation accusing it of extorting him for a cover story that the newspaper still ran the next day.

In its Thursday edition, the paper reported that after a thorough investigation, they found out that a firm, which was associated with the MP, had received tenders valued at Ksh2.6 Billion over a period of 10 years.

Taking to social media, Duale referenced an earlier alleged extortion attempt in 2015 by the publication and claimed that the latest effort was just but a repeat.

"They are (once) again trying to extort money and blackmail me by running another fake story by one journalist Brian Wasuna tomorrow.

"The company in question is Concordia. I'm not a party to the company nor am I the director. If they run the fake story I will sue Nation Media for defamation. I have provided all the necessary details to the editor," expressed the MP.

In their report, Daily Nation acknowledged that Duale furnished them with details of his namesake, who was reportedly at the helm of the firm in question, but could not ascertain their signatures.

"Interestingly, Duale sent to us the national ID and passport photos of the other Aden Bare Duale but said he did not have his mobile number.

"Also, the signatures on the identification documents neither tallied with those on the tender documents nor with the Majority Leader’s signature on his passport, thus begging the question: Who owns Concordia?" questioned the paper.

Linking Duale to the firm, the paper insinuated that the lawmaker was committing an offence by doing business with the government.

After the legislator confirmed that the story ran, he told Kenyans.co.ke that he was in talks with his lawyer to file a lawsuit against the media house and that the said firm was also preparing to sue too.

"I am with my lawyer and I'm going to sue today. That company is also going to sue today," he remarked.
