Jeff Koinange's Humble Plea on First Class Jobless Student's Story

On Sunday night, Citizen TV anchor, Jeff Koinange, was touched by an emotional story on how one Kelvin Ochieng, a First-class graduate from the University of Nairobi (UON), has been jobless and homeless.

Kelvin, a former Maranda High School student and an index one during his exam year, scored an A in KCSE.

He also scored 392 out of 500 in KCPE. Kelvin was rescued from the streets by Christopher Oloo, a stranger turned friend, who housed him at Kosovo, Mathare slums.

“My goodness! What a sad story! There has to be somebody out there who can help Kelvin. First-class Honours. A First-class student. It’s not right. We will have failed as a nation if we can't help such people out there.

“A heartbreaking story. Years of hard work topped with excellent academic grades in vain. Reach out to us through our phone numbers, tweet us too and lets help this young man,” Jeff pleaded.

Kelvin studied Actuarial Science at UON. He had hoped for a great future to save his family from poverty.

“I was frustrated and went to live in the streets for a year after failing to land a job. It's better living in Mathare than lying in the streets. Back home, they all believed that I would be the saviour,” Kelvin stated.

Christopher revealed that he could not believe the story when he found Kelvin in the streets. He had to go to the cyber where Kelvin stored his certificates and was astounded at how such a mind struggled with life.

“I applied to Central Bank and other top firms but ended up in vain. This frustration weighed up on me until I contemplated suicide,” an emotional Kelvin narrated.

He managed to raise his school fees through bursaries and a Chinese scholarship.

Kelvin's belongings were still out in the streets, as he worked at Market Street, Nairobi, washing cars to earn a living.

Jeff Koinange later revealed that several top firm managers reached out asking for the graduate's number.
