Drunk Kenyan Driver Crashes Into US Police Car, Killing 1

A night of drinks and fun out in Houston, Texas, turned tragic after an intoxicated driver rammed head-on into a Harris county sheriff deputy patrol car, in the wee hours of Sunday night.

Reports by Harris County Sheriff's Office Major, Mike Lee, reported that two Sheriff deputies had been injured, while a prisoner who was ironically being transported to jail due to drunk driving, succumbed to his injuries and died.

"Overnight, 2 Harris County Sheriff Texas Deputies were injured, and a prisoner they were transporting to jail for driving while intoxicated (DWI) was killed, when the patrol vehicle was hit head-on by another drunk driver," Major Lee tweeted.

The driver who slammed into the police car ( and currently facing first-degree felony murder and intoxication assault of a peace officer), has since been identified as 39-year-old Patrick Mukuria Njogu, a Kenyan.

While highly intoxicated, Njogu reportedly veered his Lexus car onto the wrong side of the road at Westpark Tollway, before smashed into the police cruiser.

"It wasn’t like a wrong turn…The information we have is that this guy was going for quite a while the wrong-way on the Westpark Tollway before he hit these three people,” Sean Teare, of the Harris County District Attorney's Office, narrated.

Authorities claimed that Njogu’s blood alcohol content at the time of the crash was 0.23, nearly three times the legal limit.

Njogu ended up with a broken foot and was rushed to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, alongside both sheriff deputies, for emergency treatment.

The Kenyan was reportedly already on the radar of local authorities, having been charged with DWI convictions, 3 times prior to his latest fatal incident.

"The suspect has 3 prior DWI convictions and has been charged with murder," Major Lee tweeted.
