Goons Vandalise Ksh1M Monument Uhuru Unveiled

A monument President Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi in 2013 was recently vandalised by goons.

The Chuka-Town monument which cost Ksh1 million is a significant landmark in the county.

According to an eyewitness, as reported by Nation, approximately 15 unknown people vandalised the monument at night.

Area residents accosted the goons who scampered for safety in various directions, some even on motorbikes.

An area resident purported that the vandalism was as a result of area politics.

“I think it has been destroyed because some people don’t want it to be here or maybe because they are against the governor.

“Some times back, some people even urinated and went for long calls at this place,” the resident lamented.

During the unveiling of the monument, Uhuru also commissioned roads named after him and his Deputy President, William Ruto, in December 2013.

Others who were honoured in the naming were Kithure Kindiki (Senate Majority leader 2013-2017), Muthomi Njuki (former Chuka Igambang’ombe MP and current Tharaka Nithi Governor), former Nithi MP, Petkay Miriti and Chuka University Vice-Chancellor, Erastus Njoka, according to The Star

Samuel Ragwa, who was Tharaka Nithi Governor at the time, skipped the event, stating that he was not involved in the arrangements.

The ceremony was Uhuru's first visit to the county.
