KTN's Linda Ogutu Painfully Recalls Losing Dad to Cancer

On Monday night, KTN anchor, Linda Ogutu, was almost reduced to tears as she recalled how she lost her father to cancer.

Linda was hosting the Big Story show, where she hosted a panel to discuss the cancer menace after the death of Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso.

“My father died from lung cancer. By the time they were figuring out the disease, it was at stage four.

“There was little we could do. This is Kenya’s biggest nightmare,” Linda stated as she echoed a panellist's advice on early diagnosis of cancer.

Linda further went on to explain to the show’s lead reporter, Sophia Wanuna, the pain people who lose close relatives to cancer feel.

“It's a big deal, Sophia. For some of us who have lost close members to cancer, we understand the implications, the pain and what it can do to thousands of families out there,” she emotionally stated.

After the death of the Bomet Governor, several Kenyans spoke out urging the government to declare cancer a national disaster.

Former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo, on Monday, also cried out to President Uhuru Kenyatta, calling on him to declare cancer a national disaster.

He explained that by doing so, the country would finally channel resources towards the proper treatment of the disease that has claimed three influential leaders in the past month alone.

Former Bomet Governor, Isaac Ruto, also requested the government and Kenyan citizens to make a concerted effort towards fighting cancer.

"We must set up a well funded and equipped cancer centre in Kenya, it is time. We are losing many lives to cancer. Millions may be silent victims and cannot get treatment.

As a country, we can make a concerted effort towards fighting cancer, yes we can," Ruto noted.
