Uhuru’s Moving Tribute to Joyce Laboso

On Monday afternoon, several leaders eulogised the late Bomet Governor, Joyce Labosowho passed on at The Nairobi Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment.

President Uhuru Kenyatta praised her for being an epitome of women leadership in the country.

"I have received the sad news of the passing away of Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Cherono Laboso with utter disbelief. Governor Laboso was an outstanding and courageous servant leader who stood out as an icon of women leadership in our country.

"As a scholar who transitioned into political leadership, Dr. Joyce Cherono Laboso will be remembered for her passion for education especially for the girl-child, an area where she initiated and supported numerous projects not just in Bomet but across the entire country.

"The cruel hand of death has robbed our nation of a bold and illustrious leader who loved and served her country with distinction. As we mourn and pay homage to the ever cheerful, visionary and brilliant departed leader, let us also remember to celebrate her life and achievements.

"In as much as, Dr. Laboso has sadly left us, her inspirational life will remain a great legacy, not just to the residents of Bomet but to all Kenyans. I convey my prayers and heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Dr. Laboso as well as residents of Bomet County and indeed all Kenyans.

"May the Almighty God grant you peace and comfort as you come to terms with this tragic loss. May the Almighty God rest Dr Joyce Cherono Laboso’s soul in eternal peace,” Uhuru stated via a statement sent to newsrooms.

ODM leader, Raila Odinga, who visited Lee Funeral Home to view the body of the deceased, eulogised her as a great leader who will be missed.

“Laboso's death is a blow to our system of devolved government. She was a dedicated public servant and when I recently visited her in hospital in London, I was encouraged that she was on the path to full recovery. My prayers are with her family and the people of Bomet.

“She was a strong fighter of justice and freedom Stood firm in the world of politics after the tragic death of her sister Lorna. Rest in Peace,” Raila stated while addressing the media.

DP William Ruto also divulged that Laboso was one of the pioneers of women leadership in the devolved government.

"We have lost a strong woman. When I visited her in London, she was strong and I didn't expect it to come to this, just after two months. The government will ensure she is given a befitting send-off" Ruto pledged.

“We pray that our good Lord shall comfort the family, relatives and friends of Joyce Laboso. To the Council, the gap she leaves is wide,” Council of Governors posted.

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, also stated that the late Laboso would forever be remembered for her hardwork and determined public service.

“It’s with great sadness to learn of the passing on of Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso, while undergoing treatment in hospital. The untimely death of Governor Laboso is a devastating loss to the people Bomet County and the country at large,” Sonko wrote.
