Dreams Shattered as 83-Year-Old Class 7 Pupil Dies in Accident

Kagumo Chege, the oldest pupil in Nyandarua County, who hit the headlines for having a dream to become a doctor, is dead.

According to Nation, The 83-year-old Class Seven pupil at Mucibau Primary School, died in a road crash over the weekend.

Kagumo was hit by a matatu as he walked home from the market, a short distance from his house.

Chege joined the school in 2010 and showed a lot of interest and commitment to learning.

His headteacher, Kamau Mukono, praised the deceased stating that he was an average performer who impacted the lives of teachers and students, adding that he would be dearly missed.

“He was a role model for our pupils and teachers. He counselled the pupils and teachers.

"He was also a good resource person in social studies especially on culture and Mau Mau related topics. He was very humble; he removed his cap and bowed when greeting teachers," Kamau eulogised.

According to Kamau, Chege always apologised when he skipped class or arrived late.

Chege’s younger brother, Julius Njoroge, stated that the family was mourning a good friend and a uniting pillar.

We are saddened by his death. He dropped out of Class Two during his early days and decided to go back to school to study and become a doctor, following the introduction of the free primary education,” Njoroge lamented.

At his house, bundles of new and old textbooks that the old man had bought since he joined Class One were still around.
