Ex-KTN Anchor’s Daughter Bags International Award Nomination

BBC journalist, Anne Ngugi's daughter, Angel Ngugi, has reportedly been nominated for The Voice Achievers Award.

Angel, 15, was born with a birth defect called congenital hydrocephalus but despite her condition, her passion for music has always stood out.

The Voice Achievers Award is one of the biggest African social events in Central Europe, dedicated to appreciating dedication and contribution of daughters, sons and friends of Africa who, through their activities, have impacted positively on the lives of Africans.

The award is on its 10th anniversary and for the first time, it is being hosted in the African continent, on August 16, 2019, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Speaking to The Star, the former KTN and K24 news anchor disclosed that she was contacted by the organisers in March, through social media, and couldn't be prouder of her daughter.

"I did not expect it but I thank God for this opportunity for my daughter because it shows there are even bigger opportunities coming along her way," she remarked.

"Angel is so happy and excited about it. She has told me that it is boosting her morale because with the kind of a child she is, sometimes she feels like she is not appreciated," she added.

The awardees were chosen from a pool of well-qualified individuals, companies and organisations contributing to the advancement of Africa.

Candidates were drawn from various countries in Africa and from around the world. The final list included noblemen, women and young promising personalities who cherish a better future of Africa.

Earlier this year, the celebrated BBC journalist revealed how she was fired from Mediamax while five months pregnant and how it inspired her to venture into music, together with her daughter and musician Denno.

In a tell-all interview, the BBC journalist narrated how after the sack, she suffered from a deeply rooted sense of bitterness towards her 'friends'.

I lost people I thought were my friends. I even called former colleagues to hook me up with jobs, but they ignored me," she divulged.
