The Kenya Urban roads Authority (KURA) has announced the impending closure of a section of the Thika Superhighway.
In a tweet to clarify the announcement, KURA revealed that the out-bound service lane at Ruaraka Interchange shall be partly closed on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday September 1, 2019.
Motorists operating along the highway have been advised to take caution as they approach the area that will be under construction.
The closure will be between 6am and 5pm on both days in order to facilitate the installation of the beams for Outer Ring Road Junction Overpass.
“CLARIFICATION: Thika-bound service road at Ruaraka Interchange shall be partly closed on Saturday, August 31st & Sunday 1st September, 2019 from 6am to 5pm to enable installation of overpass beams for Outer Ring Road Junction Overpass,” KURA tweeted.
Earlier, the roads authority had announced that the affected service lanes would be closed only on Sunday, September 1, 2019.
The overpass which is under construction, was closed in April, 2019 and was expected to be reopened on the July 18, 2019 but works are yet to be completed.
During the construction period, the Thika-bound traffic from Outering Ring Road was to use the Right-hand service lane of the Superhighway and Turn right on the underpass at Survey of Kenya.
Airport-bound traffic from Nairobi CBD through Outer Ring Road was to proceed ahead using left-hand side service lane of the superhighway up to the Garden City Overpass, turn right and drive back to access Outer Ring Road.
Motorists coming from Outer Ring Road and want to drive back to the same road, were to drive up to the Survey of Kenya Underpass, turn right and continue up to the Garden City Overpass, turn right again and drive back.
