NIS Impostor Arrested Attempting to Dupe Police Boss

A National Intelligence Service impostor (NIS) is now cooling his heels in police custody after he was arrested trying to dupe a police OCS.

According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Tuesday, the impostor, Ambrose Nesta Makokha, 32, was demanding to be allowed to interrogate a prisoner at Industrial Area Police Station.

He was arrested and taken to the same station where he is awaiting to be arraigned in court.

"32-year-old Ambrose Nesta Makokha is in custody after he Personated a NIS officer at Industrial Area Police Station where he posed demanding that the OCS allows him to interrogate a prisoner.

"The fake NIS ID he produced was confiscated and kept as an exhibit. (He is set) to be arraigned tomorrow," read the DCI statement in part.

In June 2019, another impostor of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) was arrested by police in Gilgil after attempting to con a woman Ksh 720,000.

The woman had run to the suspect, who had identified himself as a captain in the forces for him, to help her two sons join the military.

He was arrested in one of the hotels while waiting for money from the victim.

The police, at the time, managed to recover fake recruitment documents from the suspect while noting that there could have been more victims who were swindled of their hard-earned money.
