Ruto Intervenes to Save Mariga From Jubilee Wrangles

Deputy President William Ruto, on Tuesday night, shed light on the alleged Jubilee wars, sparked by Kibra constituency by-election candidature.

In his explanation, the DP once again bashed The Standard newspaper clarifying that there were no wars in the said party, as stipulated by the newspaper.

He further went ahead to refer the claims as only a desperate move by The Standard.

"Jubilee is under one leader Uhuru Kenyatta. The 'wars' are a figment of the fertile evil imaginations of the now notoriously desperate Standard Media's warped and venomous logic," posted Ruto.

This comes after footballer McDonald Mariga found himself in a list of candidates that was flagged as fake by Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju.

The contentious list, which IEBC acknowledged receiving, went into circulation on Monday, shortly after Tuju invited Jubilee members to apply for consideration in vying on the party’s ticket.

Reports by People Daily, however, confirmed that the DP had identified Mariga as the “right” candidate for the Kibra seat which fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth in July 2019.

“He first sought to know whether the footballer was a registered voter and luckily Mariga is registered in Starehe constituency,” revealed a source who according to People Daily authorised to speak on behalf of the party.

The DP is the alleged to have contacted the Jubilee Party leader, President Uhuru Kenyatta, concerning fielding a candidate in Kibra.

“The party leader gave the nod and Tuju was directed to make the announcement and invite interested candidates to present their names,” the source maintained.

Efforts to reach the footballer to comment on the matter proved futile. However, his father, Noah Wanyama, commented on the matter stating that Mariga was likely to participate in the November by-election, but sought to confirm from him first.

Jubilee's cancellation of the list is also said to have raised concern that the ruling party might fail to beat the set deadline.

IEBC is also said to have that learned that Jubilee had disowned the letter sent to the commission on August 26.

“It has come to the attention of the Commission that Jubilee Party has denied authoring the said letter and termed it as fake,” said IEBC adding that it had written to the party forwarding a copy of the letter “for the party’s information and further action.” it posted.

Jubilee election’s board chairman Nick Bore who spoke to People Daily claimed that he had indeed forwarded the letter to IEBC.

“The board, upon receiving the names of the interested candidates, forwarded the same to the IEBC. I don’t understand where this conflicting information is coming from,” Bore disclosed on phone.
