Kenyans Raise Ksh2.4 M for Bianca Wambui in 1 Hour

When 13-year-old Bianca Wambui appeared on Citizen TV show JKLive, she never in her wildest dreams, imagined how her life would change.

Bianca, who is fighting breast cancer, touched the hearts of many Kenyans with her heartbreaking story of how she dropped out of school after she underwent an operation to remove one of her breasts.

The young girl explained to show host, Jeff Koinange, that she faced mockery and stigmatisation from her fellow pupils.

“Pupils at school used to run away from me because they thought I could infect them. Kids often said they did not want to play with someone who does not have one breast,” Bianca stated.

She further revealed the financial struggles she was undergoing, due to the high costs of treating the life-threatening ailment.

As soon as Jeff shared a paybill number to help Bianca raise funds for her cancer treatment, the contributions started flowing in.

One hour later, the amount contributed had hit Ksh 2,442,500.

An excited Jeff tweeted about the huge amount while thanking those who had parted with their hard-earned cash, to assist his guest and urged others to also chip in.

"Thank you, Kenya! ...Thank you for standing with Bianca Wambui. We have raised Ksh 2,442,500 in 1 hour! Thank you folks! Let's keep contributing. Paybill: 918675 Account: Bianca Wambui," Jeff tweeted.

The Class Eight pupil opened up about how she underwent a mastectomy but had no money for further treatment.

Even after her surgery, she had not undergone any chemotherapy or radiotherapy due to lack of funds.

Bianca now has hope that one-day things will be okay.

After Jeff had posted the amount contributed, more people from all walks of life flooded his Twitter timeline to ask for other ways of sending their contributions, other than the paybill route.

Kenyans in the diaspora also wanted to raise funds for the ailing minor.
