Most bands in Kenya can play songs that capture your attention but only a few can make your day with an impressive performance.
Music is the food of the soul and the police band know how to spice it up. On Friday, August 30, the band played a fine-tuned jazz cover of the famous pop song Despacito by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Canadian sensation, Justin Beiber.
They were practising at Kasarani Stadium during the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) games that Uhuru would later attend.
How the flute players, the guitar man and the drum player synchronised and played euphoric rhythms left Citizen TV's anchor, Rashid Abdalla in awe.
He was marvelled at how they could play such a genre of music.
"This is music that we do not expect you to be playing. We are used to hearing you play Kenyan and East African music. How do you feel being the director of such a band," Rashid inquired while speaking with the director of the band.
The director heaped praise and revealed that they were obliged to play good music.
"Nowadays, we have to motivate ourselves to play beyond the expected limits. The current generation has a mixed crop of the young and the old and we have to please and entertain everyone, from Latin to English and Kenyan," the director divulged.
He went on to explain that the band members are also trained to undertake police duties like every other officer.
"We are just like every police officer. We are trained at Kiganjo before joining the band. We also participate in roles and duties like every police (officer) and are also shifted and rotated within departments," he responded.
The band performs at every state function President Uhuru Kenyatta attends.
