SportPesa Announces Comeback

SportPesa on Tuesday announced that they had finally come to an agreement with the Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA).

They further revealed that they had been continuously engaging with the taxman on the current dilemma that has faced the firm over its licences.

SportPesa stated that they had sessions with the industry regulators in order for all the parties to understand the industry from the perspective of the other.

"Our sessions with regulators and government are targeted towards creating a better understanding of the gaming industry with the view of creating a shared perspective on related regulation, including tax administration," SportPesa stated in a statement.

The betting firm also revealed that the sessions they had bore fruits and the taxman had given the green light for their license to be renewed.

"There has been notable progress in these sessions and we are pleased that the Kenya Revenue Authority has now cleared us to have our license renewed. SportPesa is confident that the process will be completed soon tallowing us resume full operations," the statement further read.

SportPesa then thanked the clients for their patience over the period that they had been locked out of business.

This comes barely a week after Betway announced their comeback after long negotiations with KRA.

In August 2019 sportPesa announced that they had cancelled all sports sponsorships over what they termed as unfavourable business conditions.

The government in July revoked licences of 17 betting firms on grounds that the companies had failed to meet their tax obligations.
