Murang'a Woman Representative, Sabina Chege, landed in hot water following her comments on Ekuru Aukot's Punguza Mizigo Bill.
On Thursday, September 5, 2019, Sabina held a meeting with Murang'a MCAs, where she talked about Aukot's Bill and urged them to reject it.
"Be cautious of this animal dubbed Punguza Mizigo Bill. It is popular and it is good, however, it has a lot of shortcomings. The proposal number one of the Bill is to reduce the number of constituencies from 290 to 47. 47 elections of MPS, will lead to 94 MPs, 47 women and 47 men. For example in Muranga county, it will be Murang'a ward as they will no longer be called constituencies.
"Right now you are called ward representatives (MCAs) but where will you be after we amend the constitution to scrap off your positions and call the larger area under an MP a ward?" Sabina questioned.
She went on to reveal how the Bill would affect the counties.
"Because it will only be two MPs within the ward, then it may be Murang'a North and Murang'a South wards, which will be represented in the Parliament. The Senate will remain with 47 Senators," she warned.
Sabina, a Team Embrace leader, further informed nominated MCAs that their positions would be scrapped off if Punguza Mizigo is adopted.
"However, the Bill is out to scrap off any nominated position. Nominated MP, MCA and senator. What will happen to all of you who have been nominated?" Sabina inquired.
She slammed the Bill, stating that it was satirical and out to blind Kenyans.
"Another controversial point is whereby the president's term will be increased to 7 years and the presidential election will be at a different time with the MPs election. Do you want our country to be engulfed with elections? When will we work? We are adding more issues to a local man while being lied to that we are reducing the issues. The word 'Punguza' is an irony," Sabina poked.
She, however, defended herself stating that she was not biased and had not advocated for Uhuru's Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
"I haven't stated that BBI is good or bad. We are waiting for its report. When we get it we shall fully analyse it. What we want is something beneficial to Kenyans," Sabina opined.
However, Kenyans tore into the woman rep, accusing her of politicking and lacking any substantial reasons to wade off Aukot's Bill.
"For what good reasons or it's about making a few elite individuals happy and rich?" Daniel Chege questioned.
"Time to be told what to do or what not to do is gone. We are so tried of you from top to the bottom," Mzee John slammed.
