Jubilee Chairman: Man Running Uhuru's Party Behind the Scenes

Despite most of Jubilee Party’s management team being public figures who enjoy nationwide recognition, there lies one of the party’s powerful bosses who keeps a low profile.

Many times the party has had to make official communication through Secretary General Raphael Tuju, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Former Vice Chairman, David Murathe, has also been the face of the ruling party before his controversial exit, early in 2019, after openly declaring opposition to DP Ruto’s presidential ambition.

Among the Jubilee titans is a soft-spoken politician, Nelson Dzuya who serves as chairman.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Tuju described Nelson as a very important official who carries his role quietly as specified in the constitution of the party.

"He is a co-signatory in several party documents including all the nomination certificates. He also has an office at Jubilee headquarters, where he sits whenever he is in Nairobi," the CS without portfolio disclosed.

Before the appointment, Dzuya was a TNA politician from Rabai Constituency in Kaloleni, Kilifi County.

The move was interpreted as a strategy to endear voters from the coast to the party, that was facing a tough re-election campaign.

When not running the ruling party, the businessman runs a foundation that is named after him.

Based in Kaloleni, the organisation is dedicated to the improvement of quality of life for all, alleviation of poverty, provision of healthcare, education and environmental programs.

Dzuya’s foundation has been running an extensive de-worming programme that aims to treat over 100,000 children in Kaloleni and Rabai areas.

Since the program began, attendance in school has improved, the health of the children is better with majority of them growing normally; unlike in previous years when one would find many with distended abdomens.
