Duale Pressures Matiang'i Over Development in His Region

National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale on Friday, September 13,  pushed for a meeting with Interior CS Fred Matiang'i to discuss the development of North Eastern Province (NEP).

Duale, who is also the chair of the NEP MPs was accompanied by leaders from the region including Adan Keynan.

Matiang'i  was with his colleague Adan Mohamed who is the CS for East African Community & Regional Development.

The main agenda for the meeting was to discuss the implementation of the Big 4 Agenda in the North Eastern and Upper Eastern regions of the country.

"Joined NEP leaders as their Chair and pushed for a meeting with Dr Fred Matiangi, CS Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to deliberate a wide range of issues in regard to drought, security challenges between our counties and neighbouring counties like Tana River and Kitui," Duale tweeted.

On his part, Matiang'i stated that the meeting was to spur growth and development in the region and Kenya as a whole.

"As part of GoK's routine engagement with various stakeholders to spur productivity growth in Kenya, my colleague  Adan Mohamed and I met elected leaders from N. Eastern to deliberate implementation of projects and programmes in the region, including those under the Big 4 Agenda," Matiang'i posted on twitter.

Duale's push for the meeting highlighted Matiang'i's status as the supposed 'super minister' in charge of development.

Earlier in January 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta added more supervisory power to CS Matiang'i over the implementation of the big four agenda.

The National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee under the leadership of CS Matiang'i  was created to oversee the timely delivery of government projects and hand in progress reports to the president.
