Church Service Facilitates Escape of 3 Hardcore Criminals From Prison

Sunday service may be a place to reflect, give thanks and connect to God, but to three hardcore criminals in Siaya Prison, it presented an opportunity for them to escape.

Confirming the incident, Kenya Prisons Service spokesperson Dixon Mwakazi, stated that the three convicts, on Sunday 15, 2019, took advantage of the usual service at the facility.

However, the freedom was shortlived for two of the escapees as they were tracked down by the law enforcement agencies and taken back to their cells.

"I have just received information about the prisons break that happened on Sunday morning during prayers. I don't have details about their offences yet.

"Our officers made frantic efforts to arrest the two who will be arraigned on Monday to face charges of escaping from lawful custody," Mwakazi was quoted by the Daily Nation.

He stated that a manhunt had been launched for the third convict.

Earlier in February 2019, Seven suspected hardcore criminals staged a daring escape from Makongeni Police Station, Thika.

The prisoners reportedly made their way from the Makongeni station by cutting the metal grill off the police cell's ventilation.

Sources indicate that the escapees included five robbery with violence suspects and two others arrested over trafficking narcotics.
