Ruto's Botched Promise Lands Murkomen in Trouble

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, on Tuesday, September 17, was on the receiving end of angry lashes and satirical jokes over Deputy President William Ruto's failed promise to Kenyans.

Ruto, on Friday, August 16, 2019, reiterated the government's commitment to complete the construction of several stadia across the country. He pledged that the national government would, within, the next one year deliver on its promise to Kenyans. However, the promise has not yet seen the light of day.

Murkomen, who sustained an injury during a football match between senators and Kitui MCA's on Monday, September 16, posted photos on social media of how he hurt his shoulder at Kitui Showground.

In the photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the gravel-filled stadium had very little grass on it. It was also marked with white chalk, to indicate the basic structures of a football pitch; A penalty area (18-yard box), the centre line, and the centre circle.

There were no seats for fans, who were spotted sitting on the sidelines to watch as the senate team snatched a narrow win to end the match at 3-2.

Kenyans swiftly tore into Murkomen, reminding him of the failed promise by Jubilee

"Shameful to share such a playing ground on social media yet one of your agenda was a modern stadium in each county! Ungeumia Ata zaidi" (I wish the injury would have been more serious)," one Asego lashed out.

"How about the six stadiums sir? You could have taken the match in one of those stadia ama namna gani naniiii! (Who's that idea? -a DP Ruto's trademark phrase)," Fredrick Oremo hilariously poked.

"Pole sana and tell arap kimwarer to deliver the stadiums they promised. That’s not a pitch it’s a shamba," Alfred Okudo blasted.

Murkomen dislocated his right shoulder and was rushed to Neema Hospital to undergo minor surgery.

"Today, in a football match between Senate and Kitui County Assembly, I fell down and landed on my right shoulder tearing my tendons.

"I thank Dr. Matu of Jordan Hospital, paramedics and Senate first aid team for attending to me. I have been referred to Nairobi for a small procedure. I will be back because I love this game," he posted on Facebook.

Here are more reactions to Murkomen's post and agony.
