The former chief of staff in the Office of the Deputy President, Marianne Kitany, was conspicuously missing from Senator Mithika Linturi's father funeral in Meru on Tuesday 17.
Various leaders led by DP William Ruto were present at the funeral of Mzee Peter Gichunge Linturi at Igembe South, Meru County.
Kitany who had sought to have the divorce case adjourned so as to take part in the funeral arrangements stated that she kept off the event due to security concerns.
The Standard reported that she was on her way to the burial ceremony when she got information that there was planned violence prompting her to turn back.
"I was informed that goons had been hired to block my entry and had I succeeded to gain entry, I would have been harmed," she said in a statement.
Reports from the funeral indicate that Kitany was completely snubbed during the burial with Mercy Kaimenyi the only one listed as the Linturi senior's daughter-in-law.
In a letter dated January 10, filed at the High Court Family Division in Nairobi, Mr Linturi stated that he never divorced Ms Kaimenyi, whom he married in April 2005 at Tigania Catholic Parish in Meru.
The senator's father passed away earlier in September, when the senator's estranged wife, Marianne Kitany, was still giving her evidence in court about their tumultuous marriage.
DP Ruto, who was in attendance described Mzee Linturi as an industrious, successful farmer who was a God-fearing, amiable and respected elder.
"Mzee Peter Gichunge Linturi was a dependable, caring, loving husband and father, who ingrained hard work, friendship and honesty in his children. He was a selfless leader and helped establish, strengthen the Sacco movement in the larger Meru, which has empowered the community," he stated.
