An MCA from Nyamira County has been suspended from the assembly for threatening to shoot the wife of a local clergyman and subsequently slapping her in his office on July 21, 2019.
The Standard reported that Ekerenyo MCA Thadeus Nyabaro was slapped with a three-month suspension and a Ksh 10,000 fine by the Powers and Privileges Committee.
The committee arrived at the disciplinary action after a report was presented based on CCTV footage of the incident.
The legislator is said to have bashed the woman in the precincts of the assembly as her colleagues watched.
Nyabaro risks losing his seat as the suspension will mean he will be out of the house session for more than 8 sittings which is the maximum absence allowed by the standing orders.
Four witnesses who testified against him claimed that he stormed the victim’s desk and descended on her after accusing her of spreading rumours about him.
“Nyabaro threatened the woman in Ekegusii that ‘I’ll shoot you in the buttock!’”, read the report.
Nominated MCA Violet Nyakora was also caught up in the drama and was punished alongside Nyabaro.
She was handed a two-month suspension and a Ksh 50,000 fine for being a hostile witness.
It is believed that the chaos is only the tip of the iceberg in a web of drama involving legislators and their staff.
